The following precautions are in place for all DSI consumers, staff and families effective 3/13/2020 and will remain in effect until notified otherwise.

Be prepared for more or less restrictions, as we learn how this pandemic is spreading.

We have no known cases of COVID-19 with our staff, families, or consumers at this time.

These plans may change as guidance is updated by the CDC, FSSA, or Indiana Dept. of Health. We will alert you via email, Facebook, text message, our website, or AccelTrax messenger.

General guidelines:

  • ALL STAFF ARE EXPECTED TO REPORT TO WORK UNLESS YOU ARE ILL AND HAVE REPORTED THAT TO YOUR DIRECT SUPERVISOR.
  • Avoid handshakes, fist bumps, hugs, etc. Keep your distance form others as much as possible. We know this is impossible when administering self-care, but in general, try to avoid contact.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue, or your elbow. Discard tissues immediately, and wash/sanitize hands immediately.
  • Avoid large group activities/gatherings in the community
  • Report illnesses, staff or consumer, to your supervisor immediately
  • Practice social distancing, 6 feet, when practical – avoid crowds, unnecessary trips
  • Day Services:
  • If you are experiencing signs and symptoms of flu-like illnesses, stay home – staff and consumers Facility Day services Monday - Friday will remain in operation until further notice
  • ALL COMMUNITY HAB ACTIVITIES ARE SUSPENDED- except grocery, pharmacy, and medical visits. Staff who have hours scheduled in the community will be reassigned to meet the needs of the individuals we serve. You may be sent to a group home or residential setting to assist. All consumers and staff must enter through the main entrance(s) of all facilities.

Upon entry hands must be washed or sanitized.

A questionnaire screening for basic health concerns will be completed.

Outside agency staff, families, volunteers dropping off or picking up will be met at the door. DO NOT COME INSIDE.

All visitors, including team members and families for a consumer, must use the main entrances. You will not be allowed access to the rest of the building. We will bring a consumer to you if you need to see them.

All doors to facilities will remain locked from the outside. They can all be opened from the inside in the event of an emergency.

If anyone refuses to wash and/or sanitize their hands, they will be sent home and asked not to return until compliant with hand washing/sanitizing.

ALL INDIVIDUAL TEAM MEETINGS SHOULD BE SUSPENDED OR CONDUCTED VIA TELEPHONE/VIDEO CONFERENCING.

Handwashing throughout the day (staff and consumers):

  • Handwashing/sanitizing is mandatory upon entering the buildings
  • Before and after both morning and afternoon break
  • Before and after lunch
  • Before leaving for the day

All program area surfaces and supplies will be sanitized at least:

  • Every morning before consumers arrive
  • Before and after morning and afternoon break
  • Before and after lunch
  • Before leaving for the day
  • Anytime there is a sign or symptom of illness displayed in the area

THERE WILL BE NO COMMUNTIY HAB GROUP ACTIVITES FOR THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE. This includes: bowling, YMCA, Meals on Wheels, shopping, etc…

Special Olympics have suspended all activities.

Any staff or consumers displaying signs or symptoms of illness will be isolated from others until they are able to be sent home as soon as possible. 


In-Home (REACH) Services and First Steps

Individuals receiving in-home services should be served in the consumer’s home as much as possible. If individual/family chooses to continue services outside of the home, group contact will be restricted. An individual plan will need to be established, approved by the program manager and IDT. An informed consent must be completed. 


Group Homes:

These homes are licensed through the State Department of Health. We will be taking direction from them on specific actions to be taken.

ALL STAFF ARE EXPECTED TO REPORT TO WORK UNLESS YOU ARE ILL AND HAVE REPORTED THAT TO YOUR DIRECT SUPERVISOR.

If staff or consumers are coming to any DSI Facility they are to use the designated entrance. You must make sure the consumer is being assisted and met by a staff member within the facility.

Non-medical visitors, including families, are not allowed at this time. Please encourage telephone and face-time communications.

Hand washing and home sanitizing will be a priority for staff to complete throughout the day. Please follow instructions provided by management.

Group homes will be attending day programs until further notice. Staff from the day programs may be sent to the group homes to provide additional staffing needed at the point when/if consumers are kept home form day programs. Some medically fragile homes may choose to stop day services earlier than others. 


Community Living:

ALL STAFF ARE EXPECTED TO REPORT TO WORK UNLESS YOU ARE ILL AND HAVE REPORTED THAT TO YOUR DIRECT SUPERVISOR.

If staff or consumers are coming to any DSI Facility they are to use the designated entrance. You must make sure the consumer is being assisted and met by a staff member within the facility.

If staff are taking consumers to any other day program they are not to enter the building. You must make sure consumer is being assisted by a staff member within the facility.

ALL COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES ARE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED, except going to/from work/day services, grocery, pharmacy, and medical appointments unless approved by an IDT with an informed consent.

While visitors cannot be banned from private/leased homes, please discourage visits at this time. Encourage phone and face-time communications.

Make sure you have adequate cleaning supplies and gloves. Report to supervisor immediately if you need supplies.

Practice universal precautions, per usual, and increase hand washing/sanitizing.

Laundry should be completed frequently.

Increase assistance in cleaning/sanitizing consumer homes.


Admin Staff:

ALL STAFF ARE EXPECTED TO REPORT TO WORK UNLESS YOU ARE ILL AND HAVE REPORTED THAT TO YOUR DIRECT SUPERVISOR.

All consumers and staff must enter through the designated entrance of all facilities.

Upon entry hands must be washed or sanitized.

A questionnaire screening for basic health concerns will be completed.

Do not enter program areas unless absolutely necessary. 


Supported Employment:

Consumers will be supported in going to work per usual, unless their employer has placed restrictions on that. Be sure to know what the employers expect.

ALL STAFF ARE EXPECTED TO REPORT TO WORK UNLESS YOU ARE ILL AND HAVE REPORTED THAT TO YOUR DIRECT SUPERVISOR.

All consumers and staff must enter through the designated entrance of all facilities.

Do not enter program areas unless absolutely necessary. 


Transportation Routes:

All DSI routes will continue as scheduled. Each agency vehicle will be sanitized upon returning to its base. 


Trainings – all programs:

Mandatory trainings will still take place.

Trainers, please sanitize all surfaces before and after every training. 


Interviews:

Interviewees will follow the same safety measures as everyone else when entering a building.

They will be escorted to and from the location of their interview.

Anyone displaying signs/symptoms will not be allowed into buildings.

Phone/face time/ conferencing interviews are being encouraged for first interview.
